Although drivers of cars, trucks and SUVs have to be cognizant of people on motorcycles, motorcyclists have to be just as aware of other motorcyclists. A recent motorcycle accident in Las Vegas may have been caused by one motorcycle hitting another.
According to the Nevada Highway Patrol, the accident occurred on Interstate 15 near Sahara Avenue as two motorcycle riders were traveling in the same direction. One rider lost control and ran into the other. The bike that was hit also lost control and struck the barrier in the center of the road. Its rider was ejected and then hit by a semi truck that was going in the same direction. The motorcycle accident victim died at the scene as a result of his catastrophic injuries.
The motorcyclist who initially lost control left the scene. The Highway Patrol is still investigating the motorcycle accident and looking for the other motorcyclist.
When a person is killed in a motorcycle accident caused by the negligence of another person, the victim’s next of kin have the right under Nevada law to file a wrongful death lawsuit against the negligent party. Negligence is the failure to act with reasonable care under the circumstances. If negligence is proven, the victim’s family can recover damages for loss of financial support, loss of companionship and medical and funeral expenses.
Those who have lost a loved one in a motorcycle accident are often traumatized by the event and unsure where to turn for help. An experienced Nevada personal injury attorney can help the family review their options and represent them throughout the litigation process.
